Sound Library Basics


 



The Online Sound Library is only accessible from computers connected to the school network. It cannot be accessed from outside the school, nor by WiFi inside the school.
1.  On your computer, open either the Chrome or Firefox browser.  You might see the following screen:

2.  If you don't see this screen:

  • In the box "KEYWORDS -- Include:", type any word or words that might appear in the description of the sound you're looking for.
  • In the box "KEYWORDS -- Exclude:",  type words you don't want in the description of  the sound you're looking for.
  • Click on the button "Search Sonotheque".

4.  A listing of all the tracks whose description matches your search criteria will appear.

5.  Scroll down the list until you find a track you want to audition. Click on the “PLAY”   play  icon on the right to play the sound.


  • A small media player will appear at the bottom left of the screen and your selected track will begin to play.
  • A small box to the bottom right will display the details of the track that's playing. You can copy and paste this info into Word to make your list for Sound 2, Assignment 1A.

6.  If this is a track you want to save, click on the  button "CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD FILE" to download the sound clip.

What happens next depends on the setup of your computer.

 In Internet Explorer, a dialog similar to the following will appear.

  • Click on Open to open the file in Reaper.
  • Click on “Save” to save the file to the Projects folder on your USB key.
